Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Ayushman Bharat (PMJAY) card?
Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) is a government health scheme that provides health cover of up to ₹5 lakh per family per year for secondary and tertiary care hospitalisation at empanelled hospitals across India.
Who is eligible for an Ayushman card?
Eligibility is based on the SECC (Socio-Economic Caste Census) database and covers the bottom 40% of India's population. Additionally, all senior citizens aged 70 years and above are eligible under the Ayushman Vay Vandana Yojana, regardless of income.
How much does the Ayushman card cost?
The Ayushman card issued by the government is free of cost. This service charges only a one-time assistance fee for helping you check eligibility, prepare details, and complete the online application process correctly.
What documents are needed?
You primarily need an Aadhaar card and a registered mobile number for OTP verification. A ration card or family ID may be used to locate your family in the beneficiary database.
How do I check if my name is in the list?
Your eligibility can be checked on the official beneficiary portal by searching with your Aadhaar number, family ID, or registered mobile number after OTP verification. We assist you through this check during the process.
How long does it take to get the card?
If you are eligible and your Aadhaar e-KYC is successful, the card can often be generated and downloaded the same day. In some cases, approval may take a few working days depending on verification.
Can the whole family use one card?
Each eligible family member gets their own Ayushman card, but the ₹5 lakh cover is shared on a family floater basis per year across all members of the family.
What does the ₹5 lakh cover include?
It covers hospitalisation expenses including pre and post-hospitalisation, diagnostics, medicines, ICU charges, surgery, and treatment for over 1,900 medical procedures at empanelled government and private hospitals.
Is treatment really cashless?
Yes. At empanelled hospitals, eligible beneficiaries receive cashless and paperless treatment up to the cover limit. You only need to present your Ayushman card and complete verification at the hospital.
Can I use the card in any state?
Yes. PMJAY is portable across India, so you can avail treatment at any empanelled hospital in any state, irrespective of where your card was issued.
What if my name is not in the eligibility list?
If your name does not appear, you may not currently qualify under the SECC criteria. Senior citizens aged 70+ can still register under the Vay Vandana scheme. We will inform you of your status during the assistance process.
Do I need to renew the Ayushman card?
The Ayushman card does not require annual renewal. The ₹5 lakh cover automatically resets each year as long as you remain eligible under the scheme.
